While the history of the Chianti has been shaped by 
Siena and Florence who have battle over the region for much of the middle ages, a deeper history lies with the Romans and even further back with the Etruscans.
The name for the region is largely thought to be derived from the Latin verb “Clango” – meaning ‘to sound trumpets.’ The rich heritage of this rural region can be seen in walls of its farmhouses and its legendary wine estates.
While some visitors rush to the region’s main cities, many visitors elect to savor the Tuscan experience by devoting a significant amount of their stay to exploring the beautiful scenery that exists on the other side of the city walls.
The region has become a home away from home for many who enjoy vibrant springs, balmy

Many farmhouses like Piturnella were originally built as guard towers during medieval age. Later additional buildings were added around the original tower leaving its original the large walls inside the farmhouse.
Piturnella Complex has been restored respecting the original characteristics and materials. Added to the farmhouse there is an external green area from whitch there is a wonderfull view of Chianti hills and the ancient Charthusian Monastery of Pontignano
